Salgemma presented Type Around, a workshop exploring typography as a narrative and identity element of the territory. From ancient engravings to modern signs, typography reflects the history and culture of places. Guided by ๐พ๐ค๐ก๐ก๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ค, a group of type designers, the3 participants contributed to the creation of a new typographic archive of Apulia, developing theoretical and practical skills to design typefaces inspired by the local visual heritage.
What we did
- Workshop design: As the Salgemma team, we developed together with the3 organiser3 a format combining field research, typographic theory and design practice. The3 participants were invited to collect typographic examples from their local area to engage in collaborative and creative work.
- Training and supervision:
During the workshop, ๐พ๐ค๐ก๐ก๐ก๐๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ค offered in-depth training on typographic history, tools and techniques, culminating in the creation of new typographic projects.
- Creation of a typography archive:
The result of the workshop was a first nucleus of Apulian typographic archive, enriched by the participants' interpretations and projects.
The workshop provided a unique opportunity to explore the link between typographic design and cultural identity, celebrating the visual richness of Apulia and creating new creative connections.
Collletttivo is an expanding group of designers working on typographic projects and occasionally releasing Open Source typefaces through the platform. The aim of the collective is to create a network of people who challenge each other to improve through practice and mutual exchange in the highly competitive fields of graphic and type design.
